Frosty, the Transformer?

We just came in from lots of outside snow fun! I thought we better go make a snowman before it all melts away again. The boys loved the snowman process and Owen sang “Frosty the Snowman” over and over and over. They really seemed to love Frosty, but…as soon as this picture had been taken both Owen and Davis immediately went into “DESTROY” mode. They said, “Frosty is a Transformer! Let’s make him into a car now.” So, that my friends is how Frosty became a Transformer. To be exact, he transforms into a Herbie car (you’ll notice his number is 42 since Owen is 4 and Davis is 2). Please tell me mine are not the only boys who love to destroy things, almost as soon as they are created!

Now you see it, Now you don't!

So Monday we woke up to this view from our back porch...beautiful! I love the look of everything covered in fresh, white, clean snow. By yesterday afternoon it had all melted away, but again this morning we are a winter wonderland. While there was snow on the ground we did take advantage of it with some good old American fun (some may call it redneck fun...we choose to call it "good old American fun"). Our great neighbor, Dallas, tied a tube to the back of his tractor and pulled us around the field behind our house. The giggles from the boys were priceless. Thank you Dallas for taking the time to make a memory for our family!

"Seven Steps" to Preparedness

At the beginning of 2008 Jed and I made a list of things that we would like to accomplish in the New Year (Heaven forbid I should call them resolutions...It seems like I am more likely to succeed if I don't. This of course will make Jed laugh and support his theory that I am superstitious.). One thing that we have been working on is becoming more prepared for emergency situations (both, physical and financial). You would think that we would be set with a mom who is an emergency preparedness guru, but sometimes we get stuck and don't know what to focus on next. This is why I am grateful that my mom, through her company, totallyready.com, has just launched a blog with a new program called "Seven Steps". Each Monday they will outline seven things to do that week to become better prepared. Now that is my kind of program. Spell it out for me and I will follow. It's free and easy to do. What could be better than that? Check it out at http://blog.totallyready.com/

We've Been Attacked by the ICK!

After weeks of watching our friends and their kids battle the “ick” we have officially been attacked ourselves. I don’t know if this bug is going around everywhere, but it is a nasty little sickness and I hope that none of you get it. It started with Davis, then Owen had a mild version of it, then me and Kate. So far Jed has steered clear of it all and I hope that it continues. Jed has been a champ through it all, as I basically slept for a day a half straight. I feel blessed to have a husband who will pick up the slack when he needs to and hold my hair out of my face while I throw up. Now that is love!

"Basketball is my FAVORITE Sport!"

For months and months now Owen has been talking about playing basketball. I was hesitant to sign him up for the month long program, through the local YMCA, because he was so reluctant to get in there and play when we tried soccer and then football in the Fall (To explain a little further, he was not at all timid until at the 2nd week of soccer he got plowed into and got a bloody nose. Of course every mom near the field came running to his rescue...a little embarrassing for this boy.). To make a long story short we took a break from the sports program, but he kept asking when he could play basketball. "Basketball is my FAVORITE sport," he would say. Well, last week basketball started and I waited until the last day to sign him up, just to make sure that he was really going to participate. He did great for the first ten minutes and then he started to get nervous or something and before I knew it, I was running up and down the court with him and the rest of the "team" (ie. the swarm of 3-4 year olds going after the ball). I am just glad that they didn't make me pay to play too!

Also, check out Owen's shorts. They are hand-me-downs from Hunter and are still several sizes too big, but of course he insisted on wearing them. We love hand-me-downs from our cousins!!!
Now when I get something new for Owen he asks, "Was this Matt's, Hunter's or Spencer's?"

Watch Out World, Here Comes Kate!

Well, it looks like it is official. Kate was "crawling" all over the family room two nights ago. Mostly she was trying to get her hands on a little fire truck that Papa bought for Owen. Really I don't know that we can call what she does "crawling" it is more of a sideways army crawl type move. I am just amazed that she is already mobile. It was just a few days before Christmas that she really started sitting up and playing with toys on her own. You would think that after two other babies I would be able to remember when they start doing things, but I am constantly having to look things up and often catch myself being caught off guard. Anyway, we were hoping that she wouldn't be mobile until we were done using our wood burning stove for the year, but she had other plans. I guess that is what we are trying to do, raise an independent and determined little lady, right?

The Internet will NEVER be the Same Again!

Well, we have done it...we have joined the blogging world. In our quest to simplify our lives and stay in better contact with our loved ones near and far, we have succumbed to the peer pressure and are now officially Bloggers!

The funny thing is, I don't really have anything to report, so how about we
just post a photo of our cute kids (this is how I found Owen and Davis just seconds after we heard Kate waking up Friday morning) and call it good. Whew...we made it through our first post.
